About The Position

The Pharmacy Intern is responsible for providing customer service and assisting the Pharmacists in dispensing prescriptions, entering information into the computer, ordering and receiving products, checking in orders, stocking, record keeping, answering telephone calls, administering immunizations, and maintaining the overall conditions of the Pharmacy Department as defined in the Pharmacy Standards Manual.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled as a Full-Time student in an accredited School of Pharmacy.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all State and Federal regulations, which require that all dispensing activities occur under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Greet customers and receive prescriptions, requesting birth date for existing patients.
  • Obtain new patient information by requesting a patient/representative to fill out a patient history form.
  • Provide the Harris Teeter 'Notice of Privacy Practices' and acknowledgement form to each new patient/representative.
  • Determine whether the patient wishes to receive medication counseling from the Pharmacist.
  • Obtain all information necessary to dispense and bill Third Party prescriptions.
  • Assist in entering patient, drug and prescription data into the computer.
  • Assist in obtaining and returning medications to and from the pharmacy shelves.
  • Assist in counting, pouring, measuring, compounding and packaging of medication for dispensing.
  • Assist in answering the telephone according to Harris Teeter policy.
  • Assist in calling or faxing refill authorizations to prescribers' offices.
  • Assist in bagging of prescriptions and handling customer transactions.
  • Assist in ordering, receiving, verifying, pricing, and stocking of pharmaceuticals and other products.
  • Provide all relevant paperwork to the supervising pharmacist if hours worked apply towards licensure.
  • Recommend and administer immunizations according to State Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, neat department.
  • Assist in ordering, stocking and retrieving prescription containers and other supplies.
  • Assist in filing of prescriptions, reports, invoices and other documents.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures, dress code and work ethics.
  • Effectively communicate with customers, management, and associates.
  • Complete assigned projects as required by Pharmacy Operations Manager.
  • Attend any scheduled intern training meetings.
