Organizational Function and Responsibilities: This position is responsible for Lab and Clinical instruction in the Nursing Assistant program at the college level. This includes implementing a relevant and progressive curriculum, designing, and implementing effective learning strategies and environments, delivering instruction of high quality, assessing student learning, supporting students, and participating in limited college service activities at the department, division and college levels. A variety of schedules exist, including weekdays, weekends, and evenings. Laboratory experiences are scheduled a total of 25-clock-hours, with most shifts between 3 and 6 clock hours. Clinical experiences are scheduled a total of 24-clock-hours, most scheduled as 4, 6, or 8 clock hour shifts. Lab and clinical shifts longer than 4 hours are scheduled to include breaks. This position reports to the Associate Dean – School of Nursing.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing AND (4,000 hours) of work experience.
  • At least 1 year of paid full-time or part-time work experience as a Registered Nurse in a long-term care facility or facility providing care for an extended period of time to people living with chronic health conditions (e.g., rehabilitation unit, swing bed unit, inpatient skilled hospice, etc.).
  • License to practice as a registered nurse in the state of WI (or able to obtain Wisconsin license if currently licensed elsewhere).
  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Two (2) years of related work experience
  • The ability to obtain WI Department of Health Services approval to teach in a Nurse Aide Training program
  • Knowledge of current educational methods and strategies, including learner-centered instruction, assessment, evaluation and collaborative techniques and strategies that address closing the gap in student access and achievement across race, gender, and disability.
  • Skill in the use of educational technology and alternative delivery methods.
  • Knowledge and ability to infuse multicultural perspectives into course content and delivery.
  • Skill in communications and human relations with populations having diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds, as well as individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to interact with healthcare settings to establish partnerships.
  • Ability to safely use equipment and processes in care of vulnerable adults in long-term care environments

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for hands-on instruction in the Nursing Assistant program laboratory and/or clinical experiences.
  • Develop and plan appropriate instructional strategies and alternative delivery strategies when appropriate to face-to-face lab and clinical delivery.
  • Participate in in-service meetings, staff development training or other activities or programs requested by the Department.
  • Assist and advise students who have problems with course content, career concerns, and other matters that can impact performance.
  • Comply with college policies and directions regarding student testing, record keeping, , providing grades on a timely basis, evaluating student performance and maintaining office hours for student assistance and counseling, etc.
  • Maintain competencies as an instructor as aligned with the Faculty Quality Assurance System
  • Instructional provision in skills lab and/or clinical settings.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the college’s mission, vision, and values.
