Organizational Function and Responsibilities: This position is responsible for instruction in the Dental Hygienist program at the college level. This includes developing a relevant and progressive curriculum, designing and implementing effective learning strategies and environments, delivering instruction of high quality, assessing student learning, advising students, and participating in college service activities at the department, division and college levels. Instructors develop instructional strategies and curriculum as a regular part of their work, and are encouraged to serve on committees. This position reports to the Department Chair in the School of Health Education.

Requirements

  • A graduate of a dental hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
  • Bachelor's degree is required (in any field). Program Directors must have a Master's degree (in any field).
  • Registered Dental Hygiene (RDH) Credential. WI licensure required.
  • Certified in nitrous oxide and local anesthetic.
  • Two (2) years or 4,000 hours of work experience in dental hygiene.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for instruction of Dental Hygienist courses.
  • Develop and plan appropriate instructional and alternative delivery strategies when appropriate.
  • Instruct students in classes and participate in college service activities as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  • Assist and advise students who have problems with assignments, tests, grades, course content, career concerns, and other academic matters.
  • Evaluate student performance in courses taught by the instructor.
  • Actively work with other personnel in student recruitment, retention and job placement.
  • Develop and maintain curriculum in collaboration with department/division staff.
  • Participate in instructional and curriculum articulation activities with other programs and other divisions of instruction.
  • Comply with college policies and directions regarding student testing, record keeping, advanced standing, providing grades on a timely basis, maintaining office hours for student assistance and counseling, etc.
  • Assist students in developing work experience assignments such as internships, work study assignments, team projects, etc.
  • Maintain competencies as an instructor as aligned with the Faculty Quality Assurance System.
  • Comply with all aspects of Board policies, work rules, and the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
  • Attend division, department and advisory committee meetings.
  • Develop strategies aimed at the retention of minority/female students.
  • Participate in appropriate staff development activities such as diversity awareness, technology training, etc.
  • Design curriculum and instruct in a variety of non-traditional formats to meet student and business needs.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the college’s mission, vision and values.
