About The Position

The Hotline Advocate is responsible for providing domestic violence counseling, crisis intervention, and advocacy via Philadelphia’s Domestic Violence 24-hotline and Congreso’s main office. The Hotline Advocate is also responsible for supporting in person crisis counseling and ongoing advocacy for survivors of domestic violence as needed by the program. The Hotline Advocate has internal contacts with the entire administrative staff and external contact with clients, community resources, and the community. This position has access to sensitive Congreso information and is expected to handle such information with integrity and professionalism. This position has regular contact with members of the community and is expected to represent Congreso in a professional manner. This position reports to the Intake Coordinator. This is an in-person and essential position. Operating out of 216 W Somerset Philadelphia PA Monday – Friday from 12PM-5PM. Requirements

  • Associate degree in counseling, Psychology, Social Work or related field preferred; Suitable combination of education and one year crisis counseling/advocacy experience in related field may be considered in lieu of Associate’s degree.
  • Knowledge of and proficient on the Latino culture and community of Philadelphia. Knowledge of the domestic violence issues and dynamics related to the Latino community.
  • Knowledge of the impact of trauma on children and families.
  • Minimum 1-year experience in crisis counseling, advocacy or case management; preference for the experience to be specific to domestic violence.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish required.
  • +40-hour Domestic Violence training certificate from an approved PCADV training program required and may be completed post hire.
  • Mandated Reporter and Supporting Children and Families with Disabilities training certificate required and may be completed post-hire.

Responsibilities

  • Represents Congreso’s mission, values, and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and will be an ambassador of our work.
  • Provides 25 hours of telephone crisis intervention, counseling, and advocacy services through the Philadelphia Domestic Violence hotline.
  • Provides resource information to clients, other Congreso staff and social services agencies.
  • Participates in the Philadelphia Hotline Collaboration monthly meetings as a representative of the LDVP as assigned.
  • Conducts assessments and crisis intervention to assist with walk-in clients as needed.
  • Conducts an initial client intake, which includes: an agreement to services, a needs assessment, and the mutual development of a service plan.
  • Complies with all client confidentiality regulations as specified by agency, funding source, local, state and federal regulations.
  • Maintains accurate and up to date client file and documentation.
  • Works closely with the collaborative domestic violence agencies and other partners to coordinate services for domestic violence victims
  • Submits monthly and quarterly programmatic narrative and statistical reports to supervisor.
  • Regularly attends and actively participates in staff meetings, staff training sessions, case reviews, etc.
  • Provides presentations to community members to help victims of crime and their families to identify their own victimization and learn about and access available services in the community.
  • Participates in systems wide advocacy and education/awareness/outreach efforts and activities as assigned.
  • Provides childcare support as assigned to allow survivors to participate in counseling, advocacy, and support group services.
  • Complies with essential staff policy during weather-related closures. This may be completed at any of the organizations within the Philadelphia Domestic Violence Collaborative.
