About The Position

We are looking for candidates who have the desire and willingness to cultivate an inclusive classroom culture that positively engages and impacts our diverse student population. Candidates should also demonstrate sensitivity to issues of diversity and have the ability to motivate and teach community college students of diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds, sexual orientations, genders, cultures and learning styles, as well as students with disabilities or varied levels of academic preparation. As one of the most diverse community college districts in southern California, we offer a wide range of opportunities in transfer, general education, vocational and occupational programs. The teaching assignment may be at the Pacific Coast campus, at the Liberal Arts campus and/or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, online or off campus and is subject to change as needed. Part-time faculty positions are as needed positions and do not accrue rights to tenure. Part-time faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. Candidates should show evidence of sensitivity to, and understanding of, the socioeconomic, academic, cultural and ethnic diversity within the college student population, including students with physical and/or learning disabilities, as these factors relate to differences in learning styles.

Requirements

  • Any Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in the discipline; OR,
  • Any Associate degree and six years of experience in the discipline; OR,
  • the equivalent
  • Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to teach beginner, intermediate and advanced courses in architecture, urban planning, interior design, industrial design, and design-related fields
  • Ability to oversee and guide student projects to meet student learning outcomes
  • Ability to provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines of record
  • Recent university, community college or lower division teaching experience
  • 2-5 years of experience in field of course(s) to be taught
  • Proficiency in Online Instruction with use of Canvas for LMS and content delivery
  • Preferred industry-aligned software latest version such as Rhino, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Suite, Solidworks and/or REVIT.
  • An ideal candidate will have recent experience working with racially minoritized students in the classroom, and a willingness to use culturally responsive instructional practices
  • Experience teaching studio, lecture, and seminar courses at undergraduate and/or graduate levels
  • Ability to mentor students in design projects, portfolio development, and career planning
  • Familiarity with modern fabrication methods and digital prototyping is preferred
