About The Position

Foothill - De Anza Community College District is establishing a “pool” of qualified applications for the position of Part-time Veteran's Counselor. Assignments may require teaching lecture-discussion courses during day, evening or on Saturday and/or in an on-line/distance education format. Applications will be screened by appropriate department representatives and will be filled on an as-needed basis. This is on-going recruitment, until otherwise noted and applications will remain on file for two (2) years from date received or last submitted. Unfortunately, the Foothill-De Anza Community College District is not able to reimburse applicants for travel, lodging or any other costs incurred by applicant to attend interviews or accept employment. All interviewing and moving costs incurred will be the responsibility of the applicant.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling OR the equivalent OR a Bachelor's degree in one of the above listed degrees AND a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT).
  • Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in providing counseling and career services to multi-ethnic and underrepresented students.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in providing academic, personal, career counseling to community college students, especially underprepared students.
  • Ability to provide culturally relevant strategies for developing and teaching personal development, college success and/or career courses to underprepared students.
  • Demonstrated experience in serving veteran students.
  • Demonstrated experience in skills and strategies in effectively serving underrepresented students.
  • Demonstrated experience in working closely and collaboratively with a team.
  • Demonstrated strong communication, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with counseling related technology, educational planning software, and social media.
  • Experience working in a student success program.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with veteran students to support them in achieving academic goals and provide counseling and advising services for students.
  • Develop and evaluate curricula.
  • Maintain scheduled office hours.
  • Attend department and division meetings.
  • Pursue professional growth activities.
  • Serve on district and/or college committees.
  • Participate in campus extra-curricular activities.
