About The Position

The PT Classroom Aide plays a crucial role in fostering student growth and development while assisting a group of classroom teachers in creating a positive and effective learning environment. This role assists in the implementation of lesson plans, supervises students, and performs various administrative and instructional tasks as directed. Reports to: Academy Director Direct Reports: None FLSA Status: This is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt position that requires no more than 4 hours per day. Scheduled hours are 8:30-12:30 on student contact days.

Requirements

  • Physical Requirements : This job requires a high activity level that includes movement throughout the building, active involvement with student activities, including jogging, dancing and jumping, support for janitorial tasks as needed (including things such as cleaning tables, vacuuming, and light lifting of boxes with classroom materials), and personal contact with children who may be seated on the floor or at low tables.
  • This job requires at least 30 minutes of outdoor duty supervising children to maintain their safety.
  • This duty will be performed in a variety of weather conditions and requires basic first-aid knowledge (full first-aid and AED training may be required), and the ability to observe student interactions and monitor student conversations.
  • This job also requires emotional stamina and personal stress management to maintain a positive approach with students, parents, and colleagues throughout the entire school day, including students with very high energy and some with low impulse control, and students, parents, and colleagues who demonstrate intensities that typically accompany gifted behaviors.
  • If this position is filled by a parent of a current AcademyACL student, candidates must be able to separate their roles as classroom aides from their roles as parents, maintaining the confidentiality of all students.
  • Other Position Requirements: No extended travel will be required; however, local travel may be required to attend additional training.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent college credits preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred.
  • First aid and CPR certification may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Instructional Support: Assist the teacher in preparing and organizing instructional materials and activities.
  • Provide individualized or small-group instruction to students under the direction of the teacher.
  • Reinforce lessons and concepts through review, practice, and repetition.
  • Assist with the implementation of accommodations and modifications for students with diverse learning needs.
  • Read to students, listen to students read, and provide assistance with reading comprehension.
  • Scribe for students who need to dictate instead of write.
  • Assist students with using educational technology and software.
  • Grade student assessments that do not require subjective rulings (i.e. only those with a specific answer key for multiple choice, true/false, etc. No short answers, essays, or papers which require a rubric.)
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a positive and orderly classroom environment.
  • Assist in implementing classroom rules and procedures.
  • Monitor student behavior and report any concerns to the teacher.
  • Help maintain a clean and organized classroom.
  • Administrative Support: Prepare and distribute materials, such as worksheets, handouts, and art supplies.
  • Assist with photocopying, filing, and other clerical tasks.
  • Help with the preparation of bulletin boards and classroom displays.
  • Student Support: Provide one-on-one assistance to students who require additional support, as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Provide students with scheduled sensory breaks.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Communicate effectively with teachers and students.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Other Duties: Provide lunch coverage for one classroom teacher per day.
  • Supervise students during daily Fitness and Fun time.
  • Attend CMAS training and proctor CMAS testing if needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the teacher or administration.
