About The Position

Provides revenue collection function for all surgical procedures and some pre-surgical testing performed by Eye Associates surgeons with adherence to compliance regulations in assigning appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes; timely performs data entry of surgery charges less than fifteen (15) days of receipt of surgical dictation. The Surgery Revenue Coordinator II has achieved the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential.

Requirements

  • Job requires a high school diploma or GED. The Surgical Coder has achieved or must obtain within one year the Certified.
  • Professional Coder Credential. The Surgical Coder is encouraged to obtain the Ophthalmic Coding Specialist credential.
  • Must have strong knowledge and understanding of medical terminology, CPT and ICD10 coding. Microsoft Office Word and Excel experience preferred.
  • Next Gen/Advantx experience preferred. 1 Year Medical Billing/Accounts Receivable experience preferred.
  • Ability to speak, listen and develop and communicate written materials.
  • Demonstrates ability to interact with patients, coworkers and physicians in a positive knowledgeable manner.
  • Primarily sedentary position.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains reports from participating surgical facilities and verifies with surgery scheduling report to obtain necessary billing information
  • Determines applicable procedure code(s), prices accordingly, and bills procedures performed by all Eye Associates physician surgical staff
  • Batches total dollars and procedure codes
  • Monitors procedure codes for additions, deletions, and changes
  • Enters into the computer billing information for hospital consults
  • Monitors procedure codes for additions, deletions and changes
  • Serves as a liaison with sites relative to specialty of surgical billing
  • Processes all patient account adjustments including but not limited to corrections, posting errors, contractual arrangements, write offs, and physician approved write offs
  • Assists with obtaining diagnosis codes
  • Research and processes credit balances if primary or secondary insurance is not filed and fixes account to trigger insurance filing
  • Keeps current with regulations and changes in procedures relative to billing and reimbursement in the applicable insurance specialty
  • Ensures the accuracy of reporting CPT codes, modifiers, referring physicians, diagnoses, referrals, etc. to each insurance company
  • Compliant with their specific regulations and our compliance program
  • Reports issues in billing that appear at variance with our compliance plan
  • Consistently exhibits behaviors, which create a high level of patient and employee satisfaction, which, maintains the credibility, integrity and positive image which supports the mission, goals and operations of Eye Associates and contributes to continuous performance improvement.
  • The annual completion of assigned Learning Management System (LMS) courses is mandatory. Any individual who has not completed their assigned training prior to November 30th of each year may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
