About The Position

Accurate registration, pre-registration, and post-registration of patients within established departmental guidelines for both socio-demographic and financial/insurance data as back to up daily registration staff. Accurate scheduling of appointments required for laboratory testing. Facilitates patients’ intake/transition to the health system by providing excellent customer service skills and serving as an advocate for the patient in identifying third party payer coverages and referral and pre-certification requirements. Educating the patient regarding their rights, advance directives, system services, and other patient services. Supplies Advanced Beneficiary Notices as required by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Providing timely and accurate information regarding patient data/status to other health system departments, physicians, physician office staff, and other related entities while ensuring patient confidentiality is not breached. Ensures patient flow through the registration process or phone intake process is professional, patient friendly, and within department established time standards. Collaborates and communicates efficiently with interoffice and intraoffice personnel both within Stamford Health, within the Laboratory Department, as well as associated offices. Maintains up-to-date access and information on registration-associated programs, tasks, billing, and requirements as per hospital, state, and federal guidelines. Registration hours, shifts, and locations will vary based on department- and patient-specific needs. Completes required continuous training and education, including department-specific requirements. Demonstrates Stamford Health core values of accountability, teamwork, compassion, integrity, and respect. Performs other duties, as assigned by Lead, Supervisor, Manager or Director.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Knowledge of health insurance terminology, policies, and eligibility, required.
  • Computer knowledge and minimum typing requirements of 50 wpm.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills and ability to work with patients, their family, and the general public.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of college or two years prior equivalent experience in a health care setting, preferred.
  • Knowledge of clinical terms, preferred.
  • Knowledge of Meditech system, preferred.
