About The Position

The Psychology Trainee 1/2, Psychologist 1 or 2, Associate Psychologist, and Licensed Psychologist positions involve providing professional psychological services to individuals in New York State-operated programs and facilities. These roles require participation in interdisciplinary teams, conducting psychological assessments, developing treatment plans, and providing counseling to individuals with developmental disabilities. The positions are permanent and full-time, with a focus on promoting independence and improving the quality of life for clients.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Coursework in psychological and behavioral assessment and treatment modalities.
  • For Psychologist 1: Two years of supervised post-master's degree experience in a relevant setting.
  • For Psychologist 2: Three years of supervised post-master's degree experience in a relevant setting.
  • Doctoral degree in clinical psychology may substitute for education and experience requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in clinical, forensic, community mental health, or school settings.
  • Certification in advanced study in a clinical field of psychology.

Responsibilities

  • Participate as a member of the Psychology Department, attending meetings and performing special assignments.
  • Provide psychological services to individuals with developmental disabilities, including assessments and treatment planning.
  • Prepare and present individualized plans to review committees for approval of interventions.
  • Develop behavior support plans to reduce challenging behaviors and increase coping skills.
  • Train staff on strategies to decrease challenging behaviors and promote prosocial behavior.
  • Review and analyze data, developing progress notes for client treatment.
  • Provide individual and group counseling to clients.
  • Conduct consultations with psychiatrists regarding psychotropic medications.
