Under general supervision, provides psychological assessment, diagnosis and individual, group, and family therapy, case management services, referral, and follow-up for patients with acute or chronic psychiatric disorders, and consultation with outside facilities and/or agencies. Responsible for supervising psychology practicum students, interns and/or post-doctoral fellows. Job is primarily on-site to provide in-person supervision for trainees and on-site treatment for patients. Remote work is possible based on approval from supervisor.

  • Diagnose or evaluate psychiatric disorders of individuals and administer programs of treatment.
  • Interview patients in outpatient and inpatient settings and review medical and social case histories.
  • Observe patients in various situations; select, administer, and interpret intelligence, personality, or other psychological tests to diagnose disorders and formulate plans of treatment.
  • Provide consultation to other mental health professionals regarding test results.
  • Treat psychological disorders to effect improved adjustment utilizing various psychological techniques.
  • Assess patient progress and modify treatment plans accordingly.
  • Communicate with and counsel family members as appropriate.
  • Document assessments and therapy sessions in accordance with policies and procedures regarding medical records.
  • Provide quality services to patients, including clinical care and documentation.
  • Adhere to the Retreat's code of ethics, standards, policies and procedures as well as the state mental health code.
  • Provide crisis intervention in situations requiring immediate psychological treatment.
  • Participate in educational programs, in-service meetings, clinician meetings, and workshops to enhance professional development.
  • Provide leadership in program development and evaluation in specified area.
  • Develop and recommend changes to improve service delivery as needed.
  • Assist in receiving authorization from managed care/insurance companies.
  • Instruct and direct psychology interns, post-doctoral fellows and practicum students.
  • Supervise psychology interns, post-doctoral fellows and practicum students.
  • Provide psychological consultations to other mental health professionals within the hospital and other community-based agencies regarding clients and/or patient care.
  • Provide clinical supervision under directive of departmental director.
  • Contribute to research design, methodology and statistical analysis for Brattleboro Retreat programs.
  • Participate in developing and implementing performance improvement initiatives.
  • Cooperate in marketing of Retreat corporate and departmental services.
  • Ph.D., Psy.D. or Ed.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.
  • Preferred but not required - licensed for at least three years at the Doctoral level.
  • Valid Vermont Psychology license or license eligible.
  • Eligible for credentialing with 3rd party payors.
  • Eligible for appointment to medical staff.
