About The Position

The position serves as the Health Behavioral Coordinator in the Mental Health and Behavioral Science Service. The incumbent possesses the ability to effectively develop and implement health behavior interventions for the promotion of general health and to address health risk behaviors as part of disease prevention and chronic disease management (e.g., weight loss and management, tobacco use cessation, promoting patient self-management interventions targeting issues such as increasing participation in regular exercise, healthy eating, sleep hygiene).

Responsibilities

  • Regular interaction with primary care staff and collaborative work with the Health Promotion Disease Prevention (HPDP) Coordinator to initiate healthy living and health behavior interventions facility wide.
  • Serves as a consultant to other medical center staff as requested and assists in their formulation of the health related psychological characteristics and appropriate treatment expectations regarding their patients.
  • Represents the Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences Service on decision-making committees at the Robley Rex Medical Center.
  • Participates in leadership roles on local, state, and national professional organizations and represents the Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences Service and/or Medical Center at professional/program community group/events and committees.
  • Develops comprehensive multidisciplinary treatment strategies which s/he uses while training and consulting with staff.
  • Responsible for timely completion of all clinical record keeping and documentation required by the Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences Service and Medical Center, as appropriate.
  • Performs evaluations of Veterans with a variety of psychological, mood and personality disorders, bariatric surgery and other pre-surgical evaluations.
