PURPOSE OF POSITION: Psychologist Level Il provides direct assessment, evaluations, and treatment to patients in treatment for substance use disorders to address patients' mental health and substance abuse treatment needs in the SUD Outpatient Program (CDTOPS). Psychologist Level Il collaborates with the multidisciplinary team in planning and providing care in various modalities (individual, group, and family psychotherapy) under general supervision. Psychologist Level Il may provide clinical supervision to mental health trainees.

Requirements

  • Valid license and current registration to practice as a Psychologist issued by the NYSED; or
  • Within six (6) months of appointment to this Level, must obtain valid license and current registration to practice as a Psychologist issued by the NYSED and provide proof that all of the following documentation has been submitted to the NYSED:
  • Proof of passing licensing examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB).
  • Application for Licensure (Form 1).
  • Certification of Professional Education (Form 2).
  • Reports of Professional Experience/Certifications of Supervised Experience (Form 4). Note: Post-doctoral experience in NYS must have been obtained under a NYS Limited Permit.
  • If already licensed in another State, Certification of Out-of-State Licensure and Exam Grades (Form 3) and Certification of Licensed Experience (Form 4F) should be substituted for Form 4 above.
  • One (1) additional year of satisfactory full-time experience, either working as a Psychologist for the City of New York, or in a supervisory capacity in clinical psychology, counseling, psychology, school psychology, forensic psychology, clinical health psychology or neuropsychology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct clinical care and psychological services under general supervision in various modalities, including, individual psychotherapy, family therapy, group therapy, psychological testing/assessment.
  • Develop appropriate treatment plans for patients and maintain timely and suitable records and files or test results.
  • Serve as an active member of an interdisciplinary treatment team and consult with other disciplinaries regarding diagnoses, prognoses, and recommendations for disposition of individual cases.
  • Educate and assist staff (addiction counselors, nurses, medical providers, etc.) in recognizing psychiatric illness and requesting appropriate consultation for individuals receiving care in CDTOPS.
  • Attend appropriate clinic and departmental staff meetings.
  • Develop group programming as a part of patient's treatment plans and clinic resources.
  • Other duties, as needed or assigned, as approved by the department and within the appropriate scope of practice/training education.
  • May provide clinical supervision to mental health trainees (medical residents, psychology interns/externs, social workers, and paraprofessional mental health workers).
  • May participate and contribute to research projects and program development.
  • May provide didactic training and other educational and training opportunities to mental health trainees
