About The Position

This Psychologist II role at ABSMC-Alta Bates Herrick Campus involves a Consultation-Liaison function, providing consultation to ER physicians and MPI drug & alcohol services. The position is within a 64-bed inpatient psychiatric hospital that also offers eating disorder and ECT services. The Psychologist evaluates patients virtually and/or in-person at the Ashby/Berkeley Emergency Rooms to determine 5150 hold status and reviews general psychiatric admissions in the central intake department at the Herrick Campus. The role provides mental health services to child, adolescent, and adult inpatient and outpatient clients and their families, requiring autonomous decision-making, assessment, treatment planning, interventions, discharge planning, and internal/external community resource coordination. Additional duties include consultation with other clinical staff and supervision of psychology interns/post doctorates.

Requirements

Doctorate in psychology.
APA licensed within the area of expertise.
Knowledge of human development, psychological treatment, and intervention modalities with children, adolescents and adults.
Knowledge of psychosocial factors relevant to mental health, such as personality, human growth and development; interpersonal relationships; group process; family dynamics; community integration and socioeconomic resource provisions, including the relevance of these factors for personal change in treatment.
Knowledge of and adherence to American Psychological Association ethical standards.
Knowledge of the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, and psychotherapeutic modalities and interventions, including psychotropic medications.
Ability to effectively work with a wide range of psychiatric treatment problems of children, adolescents, adults and their families.
Ability to cooperatively work as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
Ability to make sound clinical decisions regarding assessing patient's acuity and appropriate dispositions.

Responsibilities

Provide consultation to ER physicians and MPI drug & alcohol services.
Evaluate patients virtually and/or in-person at the Ashby/Berkeley Emergency Rooms to determine 5150 hold status.
Identify and review general psychiatric admissions in the central intake department at the Herrick Campus.
Provide mental health services to child, adolescent and adult inpatient and outpatient clients and their families.
Perform autonomous decision making, assessment, treatment planning, interventions, discharge planning and internal and external community resource coordination.
Perform other duties as assigned, including consultation with other clinical staff.
Provide supervision with psychology interns/post doctorates.
Schedule intake appointments and complete initial assessments within established timeframe.
Assess patient's functioning through interviewing techniques, collaboration with referral sources, psychological testing and patient observation.
Develop and review with the parent(s) and/or guardian(s), the client and other appropriate persons, a treatment plan with clearly defined specific and obtainable treatment goals based on the psychological assessment and diagnosis of child and adolescent patients.
Assist in developing, guiding, and monitoring therapeutic working relationships with patients and adjust intervention methods based on patient's responses.
Revise the treatment plan and problem list as treatment goals are achieved, changed or updated.
Obtain and provide consultation/collaboration with other professional staff as requested or needed.
Make appropriate referrals for medication evaluations, medical evaluations, employment/rehabilitation, financial assistance, and assures coordination and continuity of service through monitoring patient follow-up.
Ensure orientation of practicum students, pre and post doctoral students to job duties, department and hospital operations as related to the position.
Monitor present practices within assigned departments and investigate new mechanisms which may contribute to cost.
Provide regular supervisory support.
Supervise practicum students, pre and post doctoral students in performance of their roles.
Maintain strictest confidence of all patient protected health information (PHI) and protects all PHI from accidental, intentional, or inappropriate disclosure.
Perform care in compliance with department standards, policies, and procedures, as well as local, state and federal regulatory agencies to deliver the highest level of patient privacy and care.
Retain certification and complete mandated continuing education requirements to meet facility and regulatory agencies accreditation and licensure requirements.
