About The Position

Founded in 1871, the University of Arkansas is a land grant institution, classified by the Carnegie Foundation among the nation’s top 2 percent of universities with the highest level of research activity. The University of Arkansas works to advance the state and build a better world through education, research, and outreach by providing transformational opportunities and skills, fostering a welcoming climate, and nurturing creativity, discovery, and the spread of new ideas and innovations. The University of Arkansas campus is located in Fayetteville, a welcoming community ranked as one of the best places to live in the U.S. The growing region surrounding Fayetteville is home to numerous Fortune 500 companies and one of the nation’s strongest economies. Northwest Arkansas is also quickly gaining a national reputation for its focus on the arts and overall quality of life. As an employer, the University of Arkansas offers a vibrant work environment and a workplace culture that promotes a healthy work-life balance. The benefits package includes university contributions to health, dental, life and disability insurance, tuition waivers for employees and their families, 12 official holidays, immediate leave accrual, and a choice of retirement programs with university contributions ranging from 5 to 10% of employee salary. The psychologist duties include providing individual, couple, and group counseling; emergency mental health services; mental health consultation with the University community; outreach presentations and activities; clinical supervision of Health Service Psychology interns in an APA-accredited internship program, practicum students in multiple disciplines, and when applicable, psychology postdoctoral clinicians seeking licensure; clinical disposition activities; staff meetings; coordination of specific areas (e.g., group, outreach, training, embedded, eating disorders, assessment clinic); clinical documentation; psychological assessment services as part of CAPS assessment clinic initiatives; obtain and maintain licensure as a psychologist in the state of Arkansas; and other duties as assigned by CAPS leadership. The position has routine shift hours, infrequent overtime, or shift rotation. This position holds significant responsibility as a “remote essential” role. In challenging situations such as inclement weather or emergencies, when the Pat Walker Health Center or campus needs to close, CAPS psychologists will be on standby to serve the campus community through telehealth if deemed clinically appropriate. The decision to continue with telehealth sessions will depend on clinical appropriateness, client preference, and availability of resources. Our primary goal is to ensure continued access to quality mental healthcare during unexpected closures. To be fully prepared for such events, all staff members must take their UA-issued laptops home nightly during the work week and each weekend. This way, they can readily assist with client access and telehealth services if CAPS is unexpectedly closed during the following business day. By functioning cohesively as a team, CAPS staff will ensure that counseling services remain accessible to our UA community with each team member sharing this responsibility. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
