About The Position

Metro State University, Minnesota’s public, urban university , and four-time recipient of the Insight Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award is seeking to hire a Mental Health Counselor. This is a full-time , exempt position with in Counseling Services in the Student Success Division. The position will provide mental health services to Metropolitan State University students, under general supervision by the Director. These services include but are not limited to: individual therapy, group therapy , consultation, trainee supervision, case consultation, programming, assessment, and crisis intervention. This position will develop and implement outreach programs and campus programs in collaboration with other departments. The position will participate in professional staff meetings , case conferences, and professional development opportunities. Salary Range: $34.69 – $51.45 per hour depending upon qualifications.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, or closely related field from an accredited program.
  • Current qualifications under MN Statutes 245.462 Subd. 17 & 18. (Mental Health Practitioner or Professional).
  • Psychotherapy methods sufficient to provide effective treatment plan delivery.
  • Professional experience and competence working with multicultural diversity.
  • Individual and group therapy methods sufficient to meet the needs of student clients.
  • Crisis intervention principles sufficient to be able to respond to clients and train others in crisis intervention.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing supervision to clinical and foundational practicum students.
  • Experience working in a university counseling center.
  • Experience with threat assessment.
