The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated Psychological Services Specialist, Corrections to join our Psychology Department at State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Coal Township. In this position, you will independently provide psychological services and group therapy to inmates to ensure individuals' mental health and general emotional needs are addressed during their incarceration. Your work will involve conducting individual interviews and independently selecting appropriate tests to measure intellectual capacity, personality, special aptitudes and achievement levels. You will can expect to coordinate professional staff services to ensure special needs mental health cases are referred for counseling, psychological, psychiatric, and medical services. Some of your duties will include writing and preparing psychological reports for classification, clinical interview results, parole summaries, psychological updates and evaluations, and others as required. Additionally, you will work with the Licensed Psychologist Manager to develop new departmental education therapeutic programs and provide initial crisis intervention with inmates until additional professional services are coordinated. Requirements

  • Two years as a Psychological Services Associate Corrections (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • A Master's degree in psychology or a closely related field which includes fifteen graduate level credits in psychology; and two years of experience in the field of psychology under the direct supervision of a licensed psychologist.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Independently provide psychological services and group therapy to inmates.
  • Conduct individual interviews and independently select appropriate tests to measure intellectual capacity, personality, special aptitudes and achievement levels.
  • Coordinate professional staff services to ensure special needs mental health cases are referred for counseling, psychological, psychiatric, and medical services.

  • Work with the Licensed Psychologist Manager to develop new departmental education therapeutic programs
