About The Position

Seeking a dynamic and experienced Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to lead our Crisis Behavioral Health nursing department. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing daily operations, managing clinical and support staff, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, comprehensive care to acute, complex patients. The Manager will serve as a clinical expert, provide leadership to the specialty area, and ensure compliance with all regulatory standards. Previous leadership experience is preferred. Certification: PMHNP certification is required. Schedule: Full-Time, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. No weekends.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse in a relevant specialty.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a leadership or administrative capacity.
  • Current and valid NJ State Professional Registered Nurse (RN) License.
  • Current and valid NJ Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) License.
  • Board certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner.
  • Active DEA and NJ CDS registrations for prescriptive authority.
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support (BLS) HCP Certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
  • Strong proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience working in a Nurse Practitioner role.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative support and direction in the day to day operation of the assigned unit.
  • Develops short and long term goals for the unit which are aligned with organizational goals.
  • Manages time and resources effectively by managing multiple priorities with appropriate delegation.
  • Develops, implements, and supports activities and/or projects that promote patient satisfaction within a patient centered care framework to achieve best practice targets.
  • Provides timely notification of critical events to all appropriate individuals according to regulatory and organizational policies and practices.
  • Ensures all team members are knowledgeable in emergency preparedness/disaster response policies and procedures.
  • Develops unit specific response plan and participates in all preparedness drills as required mobilizing unit/department resources to meet needs as required.
  • Promotes cost effective use of organizational resources, consistently supporting budget objectives.
  • Responsible for financial analysis at the unit/department level with consideration for case mix, acuity workload, volume, variable staffing plans, personnel and fixed/variable unit costs.
  • Reviews and acts on variance analysis reports including nursing hours per patient day, cost per unit of service, FTEs and other variables.
  • Implements, monitors and evaluates action plans aimed to correct variances for each pay period.
  • Prepares and submits monthly variance and justification reports to Director/CNO on a monthly basis.
  • Maintains clinical expertise/credentials while seeking to build on strengths and grow in areas for improvement.
  • Ensures appropriate educational activities are planned and implemented for patients, families, and team members to ensure implementation of evidence based practice, improves educational performance, and meets established standards of care.
  • Provides and supports professional growth opportunities for team members to develop and enhance leadership skills.
  • Recognizes and celebrates team member leadership accomplishments at the individual and unit level.
  • Maintains and adheres to established policies, procedures and protocols relative to position controls, team member action forms, approved vacancy listings, and other tools/forms used.
  • Gathers information on issues, counsel, employees and initiates timely disciplinary action with appropriate and timely documentation.
  • Establishes and maintains high standards for quality and service, sharing knowledge expertise with team members as a means to achieve desired results.
  • Develops and implements unit based/house wide projects which enhance patient and family centered care.
  • Collaborates with team members and other departments in implementing strategies to ensure success of PDCA/Performance Improvement projects.
  • Fosters open, direct, and constructive communication across all levels and departments to eliminate obstacles and meet goals.
  • Demonstrates leadership in fair, unbiased decision making with dependability and reasonable expectations.
  • Maintains composure, values and principles under stressful and dynamic conditions and when faced with opposition or obstacles and acts in an honest, trustworthy and ethical manner.
  • Manages multiple priorities, meeting deadlines and expectations in quality and regulatory project management.
  • Monitors and evaluates the implementation of standards of nursing care ensuring compliance with regulations from the DOH, JCAHO, Board of Nursing and Magnet Credentialing.
  • Ensures and is accountable for the provision of competent care to patients and families and assures nursing care is delivered and documented through the nursing process.
  • Participates in and implements recommendations provided through Best Care Inspections for regulatory readiness.
  • Obtains a thorough patient history that includes: Determination of the chief complaint, analysis of primary symptomatology.
  • Review of the course since onset of above: incidence, progress and effect of therapy(s).
  • Completes medical and social history.
  • Performs an appropriate physical examination and recognizes normal and abnormal findings.
  • Records findings of the physical exam in a clear and concise manner.
  • Makes recommendations based on the data gathered in the history and physical examination for ordering ancillary studies, developing a problem list, formulating a differential or actual diagnosis, counseling, educating and instructing patients in specific disease-related and preventative medicine areas.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic and laboratory tests to identify and assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs for continuity of care.
  • Writes orders to implement non pharmacological and pharmacological therapeutic plans.
  • Communicates with collaborating physicians regarding pertinent patient information including but not limited to actual or potential clinical problems, diagnostic tests/labs, consultants' recommendations, and updates or adjustments to the treatment plan via the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team.
  • Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other health care team members.
  • Maintains professional accountability to meet job requirements, skills and competence.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
