About The Position

The Psychiatric Institute of Washington (PIW) is seeking a Medical Director to join our team in Washington, DC. This leadership role is pivotal to our mission of providing exceptional care for the community's behavioral health needs. As a full-time, employed position, the Medical Director will work Monday through Friday and oversee patient care within our inpatient program.

Requirements

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
• Board Certified in Psychiatry.
• Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice in Washington, DC.
• At least five years of experience in inpatient behavioral health care, including prior management or Medical Director experience.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and strategic planning abilities.
• Proven experience in fostering a collaborative, supportive culture within a medical setting.
• Familiarity with psychiatric operations, financial management, and decision-making in a healthcare context.

Responsibilities

• Supervise physicians and clinical staff in an inpatient setting.
• Manage patient admissions, discharges, and ongoing care.
• Develop and refine clinical processes and programs.
• Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, nurses, counselors, social workers, and therapists to provide comprehensive care.
• Lead quality improvement initiatives, manage risk, and optimize service utilization.
• Actively participate in medical staff and executive team meetings, contribute to organizational strategic planning, and ensure alignment with the hospital's goals.
