About The Position

LOCATION: Juvenile Detention Facility - Detroit, MI 48211 POSITION SUMMARY: SEMHA is seeking a Board-Certified Psychiatrist to provide part-time psychiatric care to detained youth at the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility (JDF). This role focuses on psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, medication management, and crisis intervention, while supporting a multidisciplinary care team. This position offers a meaningful opportunity to make a direct impact on youth by delivering trauma-informed, patient-centered behavioral health services. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct psychiatric evaluations and establish DSM-5 diagnoses Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, monitor effectiveness and side effects Develop and oversee individualized treatment plans Respond to behavioral health crises, including suicide risk assessments and interventions Collaborate with clinical, medical, and facility staff to ensure coordinated care Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the EHR Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and treatment planning Provide clinical oversight to Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants Support staff training on behavioral health topics, including crisis intervention and suicide prevention Participate in an on-call rotation for psychiatric emergencies QUALIFICATIONS: MD or DO from an accredited institution Completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency Board Certification in Psychiatry (ABPN) Active, unrestricted Michigan Medical License DEA registration for Schedule II–V medications Child & Adolescent Psychiatry certification (preferred) Valid Driver License and reliable transportation EXPERIENCE (PREFERRED): Experience working with adolescents in correctional, residential, or community mental health settings Knowledge of trauma-informed care and crisis intervention Familiarity with juvenile justice systems and suicide prevention protocols ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Part-time schedule (hours may vary based on program needs) Participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation is required Opportunity to contribute to program development and quality improvement initiatives Salary: $175.00 hourly Employment Type: Part-Time Work Hours: 16 hrs. a week Classification: Exempt (salaried) Benefits: NONE Application Deadline: May 16, 2026. Requirements

  • MD or DO from an accredited institution
