We are seeking a PART-TIME Psychiatrist for Emergency Services who is motivated to help individuals and families navigate life's challenges and achieve long-term wellness. This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Columbia Area Mental Health Center, Emergency Services, CAMHC #287. As the Psychiatrist, working under general supervision, provide psychiatric evaluations for individuals referred by the Richland County Probate Court to determine if the patient has a mental illness requiring Judicial Commitment to either inpatient or outpatient level of care. Review records provided by the Probate Court in preparation for such examinations. Prepare reports, including completion of required court forms to submit to the Court on examined individuals. Provide expert testimony to the Probate Court as scheduled on evaluated persons. From time to time, provide emergency evaluations of patients in Columbia Area Emergency Services clinic and recommends disposition as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice medicine in South Carolina.
  • Completion of a four-year (4) residency in psychiatry and two (2) years direct patient care experience.
  • Board certified/Board eligible in general/adult psychiatry

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide designated examination of patients referred by Probate Court for evaluation of possible Judicial Commitment, review records provided and prepare reports to submit to the Court for review.
  • Provide testimony to Probate Court on patients evaluated in the course of designated examinations.
  • Provide psychiatric services to include psychiatric evaluation and emergency management of adult patients utilizing the latest evidenced-based treatment modalities and pharmacotherapy options as indicated.
  • Attend Medical Staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Comply with the Office of Mental Health Compliance Plan and all legal responsibilities and requirements.
