About The Position

Gesher Human Services is a bridge to hope and opportunity for people at work, at home, and in the community. Gesher’s workforce development, behavioral health, and inclusion programming serves all Metro Detroiters while meeting the needs of the Jewish community. This contingent position provides psychiatric services to adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) and Serious Mental Illness (SMI). Responsibilities include psychiatric evaluations, medication management, crisis consultation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and staff training. The Psychiatrist also serves on the Behavior Treatment Plan Review Committee and supports clinical quality and compliance efforts across programs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of licensed as a Psychiatrist or 4th year psychiatry resident with MD or DO, in the state of Michigan to practice; in good standing with CMS for Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement, and ability to become credentialed with private insurance.
  • Strong clinical judgment and diagnostic expertise
  • Ability to assess, formulate, and implement comprehensive treatment plans
  • Experience supporting families, behavioral health staff, and interdisciplinary team
  • Strong documentation skills to meet federal, state, county, and payer requirements
  • Ability to manage crises with sound judgment and professionalism
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and standard office software
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and report critical information appropriately
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Flexibility to occasionally support 24/7 operations, including evenings or weekends
  • Commitment to completing required trainings and maintaining professional credentials

Responsibilities

  • Conduct timely psychiatric evaluations and medication reviews
  • Provide crisis consultation and clinical guidance as needed
  • Collaborate with clinical and residential teams to align psychiatric, therapeutic, and vocational goals
  • Participate in the Behavior Treatment Plan Review Committee
  • Coordinate case consultations with therapists, the VP of Clinical Services, Residential Services Case Manager, and external stakeholders
  • Provide staff education on psychiatric conditions, medication management, and early warning signs of crisis
  • Support the development, review, and implementation of clinical policies and procedures
  • Deliver ongoing clinical training to appropriate staff
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Ensure compliance with the Mental Health Code, Adult Protection Code, CARF standards, and applicable federal and state regulations
  • Assist in maintaining clinical files and records according to payer and regulatory standards
  • Attend required staff meetings and in-service trainings
  • Perform other duties as assigned
