Visit us online at: https://friendshospital.com/ Reporting to the Unit Medical Director, the Staff Psychiatrist is responsible for the medical and psychiatric aspects of admitting and treating a patient on a designated unit. The staff psychiatrist is responsible for the initial and continued assessment of patients and for their treatment. The emphasis in this position is ensuring the existence of an up-to-date treatment plan appropriate to the patient’s psychiatric and medical condition and psychosocial background and making sure that treatment proceeds in an effective manner in accordance with the treatment plan. When required, the Staff Psychiatrist may be asked to perform a variety of professional assignments such as involvement in the admission of patients to Friends Hospital, covering for professional staff during vacation or, in the absence of the regularly assigned psychiatrist, appearing in court in connection with the involuntary commitment of a patient. The work of the Staff Psychiatrist is evaluated by the Unit Medical Director on the basis of patients’ charts, progress of assigned patients, and statistical and anecdotal information.
