About The Position

Performs advanced psychiatric work involving the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders in an outpatient public mental health setting. Responsibilities include assessing psychiatric and relevant medical history, evaluating psychological and behavioral factors, developing and implementing treatment plans, and providing specialized psychiatric interventions. The Psychiatrist works with a high level of professional independence while collaborating with the Medical Director and interdisciplinary teams to ensure quality, compliant, and accessible care.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited psychiatric residency program.
  • Board eligible or board certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas.
  • Advanced knowledge and demonstrated competence in psychiatric evaluation and treatment.
  • Ability to provide clinical supervision and consultation in compliance with professional standards.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and culturally responsive psychiatric practice.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records and clinical systems.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage emotionally distressed or potentially aggressive individuals safely.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must meet and maintain all Central Counties Services credentialing and privileging requirements, including initial appointment, reappointment, and ongoing compliance with Center policies and applicable regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provides outpatient psychiatric evaluations and treatment of adult persons with mental illness and dual diagnosis of mental illness with substance abuse and/or mental retardation. Performs these activities for the Center’s Adult Behavioral Health consumer population. Evaluations can include interventions and activities necessary to initiate inpatient hospitalization when needed by consumers.
  • Completes all required documentation for provided services, oversight responsibilities and Utilization Management with accuracy according to all relevant requirements (TAC, TMHP, etc.) and LMHA policies congruent with established timeliness and standards of care.
  • Position serves as an expert consultant, instructor and mentor to Center staff and (with proper consents) to outside persons regarding medical/psychiatric needs and issues of consumers.
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications and other medical treatments within scope of licensure and evidence-based practice.
  • Complete all required clinical documentation, medical orders, utilization management requirements, and billing-related records accurately and within established timelines (TMHP, TAC).
  • Meet established productivity, documentation, and quality performance standards in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Serve as a clinical expert and mentor to Center staff and, with appropriate consents, to external providers and stakeholders.
  • Provide clinical supervision to mid-level prescribing providers as approved by the Medical Director and in compliance with Texas licensing board requirements.
  • Maintain effective, professional working relationships with medical, clinical, administrative, and community partners.
  • Participate in quality improvement, peer review, and medical staff activities as assigned.
  • Maintain required licensure, board eligibility or certification, and complete all required training and continuing education by established deadlines.
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and respectful conduct consistent with Center mission and values.
  • Maintain regular attendance, dependability, and reliability to support continuity of care and clinic operations.
  • Work location may vary based on program and service needs.
