About The Position

The Psychiatric Technician at Salinas Valley State Prison provides essential behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to mentally or developmentally disabled patients/youth. This role involves monitoring patients, administering medications, and collaborating with a treatment team to develop and implement treatment plans. The technician will also facilitate group therapy sessions and ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.

Requirements

• Experience in medication administration and patient monitoring.
• Ability to perform psychiatric nursing procedures within the scope of licensure.
• Strong communication skills for liaising with custody personnel and treatment teams.
• Knowledge of state and federal mandated standards and procedures.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with mentally or developmentally disabled populations.
• Certification in CPR and first aid.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to patients/youth.
• Conduct daily clinical rounds and monitor patients for signs of mental illness.
• Administer medications and treatments under the supervision of an RN or MD.
• Perform psychiatric nursing procedures including taking vital signs and charting.
• Collaborate with the treatment team to develop treatment plans and objectives.
• Assist in the development of group and individual therapy regimens.
• Act as a provider of group therapy to patients/youth.
• Coordinate clinical appointment dates and assist patients/youth in attending appointments.
• Perform first responder duties, including CPR and first aid as needed.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients/youth.
