The Research and Evaluation of Assertive Community Treatment (REACT) Program is part of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology at UAB and was established in 2000 as the first assertive community treatment (ACT) team in Alabama. This interdisciplinary care team of a psychiatrist, social workers, nurses, counselors, and case managers provide community-based psychiatric treatment, rehabilitation, and support using the latest evidenced-based practices to support individuals with serious and persistent mental illnesses. As part of the REACT team, nurses joining this team will have the opportunity to provide intensive individualized care for patients who may have avoided or not responded to traditional outpatient care and rehabilitation services. Functions as a clinical member of the REACT multidisciplinary team and provides treatment, rehabilitation, and support services. Provides direct clinical social work services to community psychiatry patients, including: individual, group and family psychotherapy; patient and family education, consultation, facilitates intake evaluation clinics; assists psychiatrists in medication management; and provides some teaching in area of expertise.
