About The Position

Join JAMHI Health & Wellness as a Psychiatric Physician's Assistant providing comprehensive, integrated medical care. Under the general direction of the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director, the Psychiatric Physician's Assistant is responsible for managing acute and chronic medical conditions, both physical and mental, in collaboration with the integrated treatment team. This role includes conducting histories and physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, providing medical treatments and advanced procedures within scope of practice, prescribing medications, and making referrals to specialty care as appropriate. Care is delivered to patients with co-occurring medical and behavioral health conditions in an ambulatory and residential setting. The role also supports provision of medical oversight of residential medication administration processes, including MAR review, medication reconciliation and safety monitoring, to ensure accurate, timely and compliant delivery of medications to patients. Care is delivered using a holistic, patient-centered approach with a strong emphasis on health promotion, patient education and counseling, and disease prevention, while supporting continuity of care in a mission-driven environment serving diverse and complex patient needs.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program (Master's Degree preferred) AND Five years experience as a PA
  • One year of experience in a Psychiatric Physician Assistant role.
  • All JAMHI positions require the ability to pass a criminal background check in accordance with the current state regulation requirements and a valid Alaska driver’s license and be able to clear the JAMHI auto insurance screening through the independent insurance carrier if driving.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive diagnosis, evaluation, and management of acute and chronic medical and behavioral health conditions, including medication management and ongoing treatment planning.
  • Obtain detailed patient histories, perform physical and psychiatric assessments, order and interpret diagnostic studies, and perform minor procedures within scope of practice.
  • Prescribe, adjust, and monitor medications for acute, chronic, and behavioral health conditions, including routine medication checks and evaluation of treatment effectiveness and side effects.
  • Respond to urgent, emergency, and crisis situations by conducting assessments, providing stabilization, and following established emergency and crisis response protocols.
  • Coordinate care with the Integrated Treatment Team and external providers to ensure continuity of care across inpatient, outpatient, residential, correctional, and community-based settings.
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, treatment options, health maintenance, and recovery supports, promoting shared decision-making and self-management.
  • Deliver culturally competent, trauma-informed, and patient-centered care, including preventive services, health promotion, and referrals to supportive and rehabilitative services.
