About The Position

The In-Home Psychiatric Nurse will provide specialized psychiatric nursing care to patients suffering from psychosis in their homes. Requirements

  • Valid and current nursing license in California.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing, with a specialization in psychiatric nursing preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with patients suffering from psychosis or related mental health disorders.
  • Strong understanding of psychopharmacology and its applications in treating psychosis.
  • Proficient in crisis intervention techniques and de-escalation strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with patients and their families.
  • Empathy, patience, and a nonjudgmental approach to care.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and documentation practices.
  • Ability to work independently and make clinical judgments while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to patients' homes within the specified geographic area.
  • CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' mental health, evaluating symptoms, behaviors, and psychological well-being.
  • Develop and implement personalized care plans tailored to each patient's unique needs, focusing on managing psychosis symptoms.
  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor their effects, ensuring adherence and tracking potential side effects.
  • Provide psychoeducation and support to patients and their families regarding psychosis, treatment options, coping strategies, and available resources.
  • Monitor patients' progress over time, adjusting care plans as necessary and collaborating with the broader healthcare team.
  • Offer crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques during acute symptom exacerbation, ensuring safety and well-being.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, documenting observations, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Foster a trusting and therapeutic relationship with patients, promoting a comfortable and secure healing environment.
  • Collaborate closely with psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals for comprehensive care.
  • Stay informed about advancements in psychiatric nursing practices, attending relevant training and continuing education opportunities.
