About The Position

Reporting to the Associate Director of Psychiatry, The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (“NP”) of Outer Cape Health Services (“OCHS”) provides psychiatric evaluations, formulates diagnoses, and provides psychopharmacological treatment of patients with a wide range of psychiatric and substance abuse diagnoses. The Psychiatric NP is an expert in crisis intervention, mental health assessment, medication and therapy, and patient assistance. The Psychiatric NP works closely with OCHS patients to help them manage their mental illnesses to live productive, fulfilling lives.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing required from an accredited school of nursing, specialty in psychiatric nursing
  • Current and unrestricted license from the Massachusetts State Board of Nursing Registration
  • Nurse practitioner certification
  • Active and unrestricted DEA license
  • Certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Current and unrestricted license BLS certification required
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals with chronic mental illness and substance abuse
  • Thorough knowledge of current, effective and safe psychopharmacologic interventions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, organizational abilities, computer experience, and the ability to work within a collaborative team setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – bi-lingual helpful
  • Proficiency in computer skills including EPIC, Outlook, Microsoft office, OneDrive etc.
  • Excellent judgment and ability to solve problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both as a team member and independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally diverse and inclusive environment.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years’ experience in a clinical/community health setting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient wellness/illness by obtaining complete medical history ensuring that findings are properly recorded in patient's medical record.
  • Complete diagnostic evaluations and prescribe medication in a safe and effective manner; explaining to patient(s) and family any concerns with side effects
  • Diagnose illness based on diagnostic evaluation and analysis; plan and provide treatment according to protocols and/or consultation with supervising psychiatrist
  • Communicate treatment recommendations with patient’s Primary Care Provider as necessary
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external mental health therapists and supportive treatment agencies as necessary

  • Involve family members or other members of patient’s support network as appropriate
  • Document all treatment in the patient’s electronic medical record in a thorough and timely manner
  • Maintain and enhance professional knowledge of theory and practice by attending CME conferences, educational programs and seminars as per licensure requirements.
  • Collaborate with others to plan, develop and evaluate new patient care and community health programs and policies; participate in OCHS quality assurance activities.
  • May serve in the on-call schedule rotation, requiring night and weekend hours.
  • Other related duties and projects as assigned.
