About The Position

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in collaboration with Ocean Health Initiatives, Inc. (OHI), staff physicians, will provide mental health services to the patients of OHI that is consistent with established policies, procedures and protocols, the Joint Commission policies and procedures, OSHA standards, and other safety and health related codes and laws.

Requirements

  • Master’ Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing is required.
  • Graduate from an Accredited PMHNP Program
  • Three to five years’ experience at RN level in medical center, private practice or long-term care setting is required.
  • Active State of New Jersey RN and Advanced Practice Nurse License are required.
  • Active State of New Jersey CDS and DEA License to prescribe and maintain controlled substances are required.
  • Certification by the New Jersey State Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Nurse are required.
  • BLS for providers through the American Heart Association is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 is required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and manages individual patient care in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer and staff physicians.
  • Works cooperatively with all providers and staff to carry out the goals andobjectivesof OHI, meets productivity according to established policies and procedures.
  • Provides continuingmental health servicesto assigned patients in the office setting,anticipatingand recognizing deviations from normal,initiatingtreatment, and consulting withthe collaborating psychiatristasappropriate.
  • Works with collaborating Psychiatry Physician to discuss patient cases
  • Identifypsychological,emotionalor behavioral issues and diagnose disorders using information obtained from interviews, tests,recordsand reference materials.
  • Develop and implement individual treatment plans specifying type, frequency,intensityand duration of therapy.
  • Orders diagnostic tests,medicationsand lab tests as indicated. Analyzes,interpretsand synthesizes data and applies information to patient management.
  • Provides education and counseling for patients, families, and community groups on variousmentalhealth conditions.
  • Functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
  • Assistswith the development, implementation, and monitoring of clinic policies,proceduresand protocols, as needed to achieve OHI goals andobjectives.
  • Assistswith the development, implementation, and monitoring ofOHIPerformance Improvement program.
  • Attends and activelyparticipatesin departmental and medical staff meetings asrequired.
  • Supports health center colleagues with internal referrals when clinicallyappropriate.
  • Collectspatient information and records patient information, such as medical history andreportsexamination results.
  • Ensures all patient chartsjustifyprescribed treatment andincludesfindings/progress, and plan of care,in accordance withOHI policy and procedures.
  • Provides medical care for all individuals without regard to ability to pay, race, color,originor creed, according to OHI policy.
  • Provides consultation,guidanceand directions to medical support staff to ensure continuity and quality of care services.
  • Effectively,efficientlyandtimelycompletes all paperwork requirements for billing and medical records compliance.
  • Advises patients on good health practices.
  • Useseffective clinical judgment in referring patients and receiving referrals. Refers patients to specialists whenrequiredandin accordance withtheir insurance restrictions.
  • Develops and implements goals andobjectivesto ensure high quality, cost effective clinical care.
  • Ensures all patient charts are completed within 24 hours of the patientvisitand the charting isaccurateto support clinical and documentation requirements via Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Plans andimplementspolicies, procedures, and systems to achieve stated goals and to ensure compliance with The Joint Commission and other regulatory/third party mandates.
  • Activeparticipantin OHI's performance improvement process, departmental meetings, and other OHI meetings as scheduled.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends at all OHI sites as needed.
  • Ability toestablishand maintain effective working relationships with other nurse practitioners, physicians,dentistsand health care staff members.
  • Ability to work in a variety of settings such as the traditional office, mobile medical unit, etc.
  • Ability to effectivelycommunicate orallywith diverse individuals and groups.
  • Ability to work with patientsofdifferent cultures.
  • Ability to work within a team setting and to relate to the special needs of the patient population.
  • Provides consultation,guidanceand direction to clinical support staff to ensure continuity and quality of services and care.
  • Activeparticipantin continuing andmaintaininga high levelof professional skills and knowledge.
  • Works to ensure patient satisfaction by communicating with patients in a caring and compassionate manner.
  • Presents information to patients at an educational level consistent with their understanding.
  • Listens attentively to patient complaints and resolves or refers toappropriate individuals.
  • Complieswithtreatment protocols as they are developed and implemented.
  • Demonstrates concern forpatient’srights, privacy, and dignity.
  • Adheres to the American Medical Association Code of Professional Ethics.
  • Keeps all matters related to the organization confidential in compliance with confidentiality policy.
  • Participates in all safety programs which may include assignment to an Emergency Response Team.
  • Completes all mandatory in-services and attends required meetings.
  • Works collaboratively with all members of the Senior Management and Management Teams to resolve departmental and organizational challenges expeditiously, economically, professionally and with minimum disruption to the practice.
  • Leads and manages staff by professional example.
  • Constantly strives to achieve excellence in day-to-day operations of respective department.
