Requirements

  • Must possess a master’s degree in nursing
  • Current, valid New Jersey APN license
  • CNS (Clinical Nurse Specialist) in adult psychiatry / mental health with substance abuse experience
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships.
  • Must be physically and emotionally able to perform the duties of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work within the SUD population preferred, but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of computers preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complete psychiatric evaluations of patients 18 years and older with chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders
  • Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications to treat mental health disorders.
  • Provide psychotherapy (e.g., cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy) to patients when necessary.
  • Monitor the progress of treatment and adjust interventions as needed.
  • Conduct follow-up appointments as indicated by client acuity and need
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Review urine screens as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with the medical team, clinicians, and other healthcare staff to create comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the patient’s care team, including step coaches and continuing care coordinators
  • Maintain and follow patient care protocols.
  • Complete utilization review peer reviews when required
  • Continually update clinical knowledge and skills through consultation, formal and informal education, and review of literature for their benefit themselves as well as for the healthcare team.
