About The Position

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive treatment for patients with psychiatric illnesses across various settings, including outpatient and inpatient care. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating patient care in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring high standards of psychiatric services are maintained.

Requirements

  • Skilled in Electronic Medical Record systems.
  • Master's degree in Mental Health Nursing or related field from an accredited school required.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts required.
  • Current authorization to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Massachusetts required.
  • Prescriptive privileges in Massachusetts required.
  • DEA controlled substance handling certification required.
  • Massachusetts controlled substance certification required.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in prescribing clinical practice in alcohol and substance abuse and/or mental health required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates, assesses, and diagnoses patients needing behavioral health treatment.
  • Performs medically delegated aspects of patient care according to practice guidelines.
  • Develops and initiates treatment plans and goals, revising them as necessary.
  • Bases treatment plans on complete diagnostic assessments, including medication management.
  • Participates in the development and promotion of nursing practice standards.
  • Maintains knowledge of abuse and neglect identification and reporting requirements.
  • Assists patients in obtaining necessary services through coordination and referrals.
  • Collaborates with referral sources to facilitate appropriate patient admissions.
  • Maintains effective relationships with primary referral sources.
  • Maintains records in conformity with standards set by relevant authorities.
  • Follows and manages patients to enhance continuity of care.
  • Collaborates with physicians and staff to coordinate a comprehensive plan of care.
  • Provides expert consultation to nursing, physician, and hospital staff.
  • Writes orders in accordance with current guidelines.
  • Recommends and establishes appropriate aftercare plans upon discharge.
  • Arranges for or refers patients to needed services not provided at NCH.
  • Maintains proficiency in advanced nursing practice skills.
  • Provides on-call services, including coverage for vacations and holidays.
  • Participates in the development and review of behavioral health policies.
  • Monitors patient outcomes according to defined standards of care.
  • Adheres to all NCH standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Responsible for personal goals, professional growth, and maintenance of credentials.
