About The Position

The Adult Psychiatric Provider is responsible for providing psychiatric evaluations, medication management prescriptive services, mental health assessments, referrals for clients for mental health care and mental health education, and coordination of services with other prescribers at NARA. Manage Psychiatric conditions while coordinating care across interdisciplinary teams to provide whole person trauma - informed care tailored to underserved populations. The provider will take part in addressing co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders through behavioral health screenings, integrated care planning, and appropriate consultation and referrals. Provide integrated low barrier HCV, HIV, SUD, and SMI treatments in communities that are at increased risk of HCV.

Requirements

  • Active Oregon and Washington Psychiatrist, or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) License, active DEA certificate.
  • High level of cultural sensitivity with knowledge of Native cultures.
  • Excellent communication skills required.
  • Knowledge and experience with Oregon tribes and ability to work with the Native community.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of mental health and addiction disorders.
  • Same day screenings for SUD, and SMI and initiation of treatment and active linkages to ongoing care.
  • Ability to work flexibly as a part of a multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary team.
  • Motivational interviewing skills and ability to engage clients and staff at varying stages of commitment to change.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients, the community, and other staff members.
  • Work collaboratively with clients, other NARA NW staff, team members, and to always treat everyone with respect and dignity.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment or for cause drug tests.
  • Ability to pass criminal background and DMV checks.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within the Native American/Alaska Native community is considered a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the cultural appropriateness of services.
  • Provides adult psychiatric services for adult clients enrolled in NARA NW’s Hep C Free program.
  • Provides Mental health treatment for SMI, depression and suicide prevention. Incorporate psychiatric medications as clinically indicated and prescribed by an appropriately licensed healthcare provider.
  • Works collaboratively with the Hepatitis C Initiative Team and collaborates with other NARA NW teams regarding psychiatric needs of clients.
  • Develops and maintains relationships within NARA NW, across community partners, and with tribal partners to ensure their involvement in program design.
  • Ensures timely documentation and reporting as required by state funding.
  • Responsible for risk management, quality assurance, and adherence to compliance programs in order to achieve the highest standards of care possible.
  • Provides consultation between all disciplines and external sources when needed.
  • Provide mental health promotion, psychosocial support, and suicide prevention.
  • Conduct integrated screening and assessment for substance use disorders (SUD), serious mental illness (SMI), and/or co-occurring serious mental illness and substance use disorders (COD). For people with SUD and/or COD, you must provide or connect them to treatment resources that day.
  • Follow-up to ensure individuals are engaged and retained in care and treatment, and able to complete their HCV treatment.
  • Assess clients to determine who would benefit from in person or virtual Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) for HCV.
