About The Position

ChildSavers is seeking an experienced part-time Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner - Contractor ("PMHNP-C") to join our team and provide high-quality, compassionate care to our community’s children and their supportive adults. This position will be responsible for diagnosing and treating clients with mental health and emotional disorders, providing individual and group therapy, and prescribing medication when necessary. The incumbent must be passionate in caring for our community’s most vulnerable families and continually improving the system which supports their healing and growth. The PMHNP-C will be a vital support for both her/his/their own clients and will work within a clinical team. This position is an opportunity to affect change in the lives of children while working at a 100-year-old organization dedicated to the highest quality of care. The PMHNP-C position supports ChildSavers Mental Health Services department with primary responsibilities concentrating on outpatient counseling, medication management, psychiatric evaluation, and collaboration with other clinicians. Remote or hybrid work may be considered, based on client care demands and in accordance with relevant telehealth policies and regulations. If primarily remote, in-office work may be required based on telehealth rules and client need, as well as attendance to mandatory in person trainings and meetings.

Requirements

  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing
  • Graduation from a state-certified advance practice program specializing in psychiatry/mental health with a specialty in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing or equivalent
  • Valid Virginia licensure as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
  • Ability to practice autonomously with 3+ years of supervised practice history required, 5+ years of experience in a clinical setting preferred
  • Knowledge of mental health and emotional disorders, pharmacology, and family or pediatric practice
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Must hold a valid, current Commonwealth of VA Driver’s License
  • Familiarity with telemedicine service delivery technology, including Microsoft Teams
  • Must be certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
  • An unrestricted license to practice as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) in the state of Virginia
  • Must have a valid DEA number and unrestricted DEA license in Virginia
  • Current Virginia RN license or a multi-state privilege as a registered nurse.
  • Proof of prescriptive authority from Virginia Board of Health Professions
  • Registration with state Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) for Virginia
  • No suspension/exclusion/debarment from participation in federal health care programs (e.g. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP)
  • Maintain credentials and licensure with all major insurance companies and licensing boards with the assistance of ChildSavers credentialing staff.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat mental health and emotional disorders
  • Offer individual and group therapy to patients
  • Prescribe and monitor medications when necessary
  • Maintain detailed records of patient visits and progress
  • Assist in the development of individualized treatment plans
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure patient continuity of care
  • Educate patients and families about mental health and emotional disorders
  • Participate in community outreach and education
  • Maintain compliance with all funding source regulations, rules, and documentation requirements to ensure timely approval of service
  • Ensure compliance with all local, State, and Federal regulatory requirements, including timely and accurate documentation of services provided for: licensure, HIPAA, Medicaid, Department of Social Services, LHRC, and other professional standards
  • Work under the direction of Senior Program Manager and Program Director
  • Support monthly clinical consultation for Mental Health Services department staff
  • Effectively collaborate with colleagues via phone and virtual means to ensure client care is occurring as specified in policy and procedure, to include documentation requests i.e. clinical support for disability and/or for school accommodation determination.
  • Maintain certifications in behavior management training and CPR/First Aid and ability to perform them.
  • Represent ChildSavers in a positive and professional manner, internally and externally, as part of the clinical team.
  • Participate in outreach, health promotion, and virtual consultation with community partners of ChildSavers as needed, to include Richmond Police Department, Richmond Public Schools, Hopewell Public Schools, Colonial Heights Public Schools, VCU Health System, Department of Social Services and/or FAPT teams.
