About The Position

The Psychiatric Medical Director will supervise psychiatric and substance use services, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves providing direct patient care, leading a clinical team, and maintaining quality and safety in service delivery. The director will also conduct psychiatric assessments and treatment for patients aged 18 and older, demonstrating a commitment to high standards of care and compassion.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of medicine leading to a medical degree.
• Completion of an approved residency program in psychiatry.
• Must have completed a Psychiatric Residency.
• Current Connecticut MD License in good standing.
• Board-certified in Neurology, Psychiatry, or Addiction.
• Ability to function in a complex system and interact with other professionals.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Supervisory skills.
• Knowledge of general psychiatric practice principles and current trends.

Nice To Haves

• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care to individuals aged 18 and older.
• Supervises and manages Psychiatrist staff.
• Supervises clinical team members in the assessment and treatment of patients with behavioral and/or substance use disorders.
• Conducts psychiatric evaluations and treatment interventions, including pharmacotherapy.
• Assesses patient risk to determine the need for hospitalization.
• Formulates and updates treatment goals based on patient assessments.
• Ensures patients meet basic utilization review criteria for outpatient care.
• Uses psychopharmacologic agents appropriately in an adult outpatient population.
• Participates in Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance programs.
