About The Position

The position involves providing crisis intervention, brief psychotherapy, triage, resource development, and disposition recommendations for behavioral health patients in the Emergency Department and Medical Center. This includes both in-person and telehealth services. The role requires direct specialized care for patients needing psychological assessment or interventions beyond general patient care, including mental status assessment, psychosocial stressors evaluation, and development of discharge and safety plans in consultation with patients, families, and healthcare teams. The position also involves coordinating the admission process to inpatient psychiatric units and ensuring pre-certification for recommended levels of care. Adherence to state and federal guidelines governing patient care is essential, along with accurate data collection for billing and management purposes.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in behavioral health sciences or related field.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a mental health or related setting.
  • Licensure: LSW, LPC minimum; LCSW/LCPC encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of techniques to de-escalate aggressive behavior.
  • Risk assessment, psychotherapy, and family/group treatment skills.
  • Knowledge of DSM-V diagnostic categories.
  • Basic computer and typing skills.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with various age groups in a mental health setting.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health referrals and resources.

Responsibilities

  • Provides crisis intervention and brief psychotherapy for behavioral health patients.
  • Conducts triage and develops resource recommendations.
  • Assesses patients' mental status and psychosocial stressors.
  • Counsels patients using solution-focused therapy.
  • Develops discharge and safety plans in consultation with patients and healthcare teams.
  • Facilitates the admission process to inpatient psychiatric units.

  • Participates in unit meetings and training related to departmental changes.
