About The Position

This is a part-time contract position (working approximately 10 hours per week). The Psychiatric Consultant supports the collaborative care team, including the clinic provider, patient, and Behavioral Health Care Manager (BHCM); through regular consultation on an assigned caseload of patients. The Psychiatric Consultant provides the BHCM support on diagnosing and managing behavioral health conditions, and advises the clinic provider on appropriate medications and other treatment strategies.

Requirements

  • Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner license in New York
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Positive, flexible, and solution-focused attitude
  • Ability to quickly synthesize medical and psychiatric data and formulate effective and evidence-based clinical recommendations

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with primary care psychiatry or consultation-liaison psychiatry
  • Experience in collaborative, multidisciplinary medical settings
  • Proficiency in evidence-based treatment approaches (Problem-Solving Treatment, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Behavioral Activation)
  • Knowledge of behavioral health screening tools (PHQ-9, GAD-7, CSSRS, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Provide regularly scheduled systematic caseload consultation to BHCMs. Case review consultations focus primarily on patients who are new to the caseload, who are not improving as expected under their current treatment plan, who received medication recommendations, and who have elevated symptoms
  • Using the registry to track all assigned patients, work with BHCMs to oversee the status and population health of assigned patient caseload
  • Recommend any treatment adjustments through the case review process or in ad hoc consultations, including medication recommendations and other brief therapeutic strategies
  • Advise on treatment for patients who may need more intensive or more specialized mental health care, supporting treatment in the medical setting until patients can be engaged in specialized care as appropriate
  • Be available to provide occasional ad hoc telephone consultation to clinic providers for very complex patients or challenging patient situations
  • Deliver behavioral health education to the team regarding treatment of conditions
  • Support collaboration remotely and / or in-person with clinic providers by participating in multi-disciplinary activities such as Tumor Board and Clinic Trainings
