About The Position

We at Fairview are looking for a dedicated Psychiatric Associate to join the hardworking Riverside side location on the University of Minnesota Campus! 7A is a 13 bed unit, that serves child and Adolescent unit that serve patients between the ages of 10-18 all single occupancy. We provide a lot of options for groups and encourage patients to attend OT, TR and other therapeutic groups. Many of our patients arrive subdued and depressed, while others arrive decompensated and manic. There are strict guidelines on the unit to ensure safety. 7A is a fun place to work and often you will see staff playing in the halls with patients. We also have a strong Unit Council which is led by frontline staff. We currently are working on encouraging more group participation on 7A. We have a lot of creative energy on our units and look for new ways to build better programming that is individualized to the specific needs of our patients. This role is approved for 64 hours, every two weeks on the day shift, working 8-hour shifts, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM and every other weekend with a variable schedule. The Psychiatric Associate is responsible for the delivery of patient care and promotion of a therapeutic environment as delegated by and under the supervision of the Registered Nurse so that goals and objectives of treatment are achieved on each unit as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc, Red Cross)

  • Bachelor of Arts in Human Services Field
  • Experience working with behavioral patients

Responsibilities

  • Conducts safety checks of patients through visual observation and documentation.
  • Conducts room, belonging and unit searches.
  • Responds and participates in de-escalation of patient including physical intervention as trained.
  • Actively participates in milieu management with treatment team collaboration.
  • Performs basic patient daily living routines and procedures according to treatment plan:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of signs/symptoms of diagnoses and interventions.
  • Conducts educational programming with individual and/or patient groups according to appropriate treatment plan.
  • Responds to emergency situations as trained per policy.
  • Participates in the treatment team’s mission, goals and plans:
  • Acts as a member of the multi-disciplinary therapeutic team.
  • Exhibits verbal communication in a timely, thorough, and professional manner.
  • Possesses knowledge of current issues, changes and updates in Behavioral Services policies and procedures.
