About The Position

Fairview is looking for a Psychiatric Associate to join our outstanding Young Adult Inpatient Mental Health unit! Station 6AE (formerly 4AW) serves adults ages 18-25 years old with a mix of challenging patients, including anxious/depressed and are at risk for self-harm or suicide as well those who have thought disorders, first time diagnoses, and struggle with managing their lives in the community. Some patients have co-occurring medical issues that broaden the psychiatric associate experience. Station 6AE has many experienced and long-serving psychiatric associates with a wealth of knowledge to provide new staff. We are conveniently located on the West Bank of the Mississippi River near downtown Minneapolis This role is approved for 48 hours every two weeks rotating day (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM) and evening (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM) shifts, working 8-hour shifts and evening shift every other weekend with a variable schedule. The Psychiatric Associate is responsible for the delivery of patient care and promotion of a therapeutic environment as delegated by and under the supervision of the Registered Nurse so that goals and objectives of treatment are achieved on each unit as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc, Red Cross)

  • Bachelor of Arts in Human Services Field
  • Experience working with behavioral patients

Responsibilities

  • Conducts safety checks of patients through visual observation and documentation.
  • Conducts room, belonging and unit searches.
  • Responds and participates in de-escalation of patient including physical intervention as trained.
  • Actively participates in milieu management with treatment team collaboration.
  • Performs basic patient daily living routines and procedures according to treatment plan:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of signs/symptoms of diagnoses and interventions.
  • Conducts educational programming with individual and/or patient groups according to appropriate treatment plan.
  • Responds to emergency situations as trained per policy.
  • Participates in the treatment team’s mission, goals and plans:
  • Acts as a member of the multi-disciplinary therapeutic team.
  • Exhibits verbal communication in a timely, thorough, and professional manner.
  • Possesses knowledge of current issues, changes and updates in Behavioral Services policies and procedures.
