About The Position

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Behavioral Health Physician Assistant, or APRN provides direct psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management for individuals with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. This role combines clinical acumen with a patient-centered, trauma-informed approach to care. The provider will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated treatment and high-quality outcomes through both telehealth and in-person care models.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing (APRN) or Physician Assistant Studies.
  • Active, unrestricted Connecticut license as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), APRN, or Physician Assistant (PA-C).
  • High levels of patient engagement and treatment adherence.
  • Accurate, timely, and compliant documentation of all patient encounters.
  • Collaboration that supports integrated, recovery-oriented care.
  • A Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited educational program is required. This education must support independent clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning within a behavioral health or psychiatric scope of practice.
  • Candidates must hold an active, unrestricted Connecticut license as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), APRN, or Physician Assistant (PA-C), maintained in good standing with the applicable licensing board. The clinician must remain compliant with all state licensing, prescribing, and scope-of-practice requirements throughout employment.
  • The role requires a demonstrated ability to engage patients effectively and promote treatment adherence through trauma-informed, person-centered, and recovery-oriented approaches. This includes building strong therapeutic rapport, supporting motivation for change, and fostering continuity of care across treatment episodes.
  • The clinician is expected to consistently complete accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation for all patient encounters. Documentation must meet organizational standards, payer requirements, and regulatory expectations, including HIPAA and applicable behavioral health regulations.
  • Strong collaboration skills are essential to support integrated, recovery-oriented care within an interdisciplinary treatment team. This includes clear and respectful communication with clinical, medical, and support staff to ensure coordinated treatment planning and high-quality patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and formulate individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide medication management, including initiation and ongoing monitoring of psychotropic and medication-assisted treatments (MAT), such as buprenorphine, naltrexone, and Vivitrol.
  • Deliver care in compliance with evidence-based practices and within scope of licensure.
  • Collaborate closely with therapists, case managers, and medical staff to support integrated behavioral health care.
  • Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment options, side effects, and recovery goals.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) consistent with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and organizational standards.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and clinical supervision as required.
  • Stay current with best practices in psychiatric and addiction medicine through continuing education.
