As a component of the medical center's Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP), the Mobile Crisis Service provides outreach to individuals living in Washington Heights, Inwood, and nearby neighborhoods of the Bronx who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis but have been unable to access mental health treatment. Members of our multi-disciplinary team make home visits in order to engage the individual, assess the nature of their clinical needs, and determine the types of services that best support those needs. We make interventions to reduce the immediate severity of the crisis and refer the individual to other indicated resources, including outpatient clinics, detox and substance abuse treatment programs, social support services, and psychiatric emergency rooms. Psych Peer Specialist – Mobile Crisis - Columbia - Part Time The Psych Peer Specialist is an active member of the CPEP Team and provides peer support services to patients with serious mental illnesses. Under the supervision of the Mobile Crisis Social Workers, the Psych Peer Specialist will function as a role model to peers; exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills; serve as a consumer advocate, providing consumer information and peer support for CPEP/Mobile Crisis patients; promotes community socialization, recovery, self-advocacy, self-help, and development of natural support. In this role, the Psych Peer Specialist will assist in the acceptance and triage of newly referred patients, accompany Mobile Crisis staff on field visits, and provide prompt assistance in responding to patient emergencies. This part time position will work three days: Monday 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Tuesday 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Wednesday 9:00 AM - 12:45 PM

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certificate from state-approved peer specialist training program from OMH
  • Active BLS

  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Previous experience working with multi-cultural and/or underserved communities
