About The Position

The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Clinical Director or Staff Psychiatrist - Inpatient, provides direct psychiatric care to patients assigned to inpatient psychiatric facilities within the UTMB sector of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).

Requirements

• Graduation from an Accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Program.
• Current licensure to practice in the State of Texas.
• Mental health experience required.
• Current BLS-HP required.

• Correctional experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the success of UTMB Correctional Managed Care.
• Provides direct psychiatric care to patients assigned to psychiatric inpatient facilities, under the supervision of the Clinical Director or Staff Psychiatrist - Inpatient.
• Regularly participates in clinical consultations with the facility mental health and medical staff.
• Conducts psychiatric assessments and develops treatment plans for assigned patients under the supervision of the Clinical Director or Staff Psychiatrist - Inpatient.
• Participates in the psychiatry QI/QM program.
• Provides emergency psychiatric call.
• Works all assigned hours as required.
• Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure established for department.
• Performs related duties as required and assigned by the Staff Psychiatrist – Inpatient, Clinical Director, and/or the Director of Mental Health Services.
