Requirements

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited APRN program
  • Licensure: Florida license as an APRN
  • Experience: Two years of clinical experience with children.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Negative Drug Screening prior to hire and throughout employment.
  • Clear Criminal Background Check throughout employment with Suncoast Center and local checks prior to hire and annually along with DCF Level II prior to hire and as required by DCF, and Must have valid Florida Driver’s License Motor Vehicle checks prior to hire and annually with acceptable driving record maintained throughout employment along with reliable vehicle, valid registration, and valid vehicle insurance. (must be in compliance with Florida Laws and Administrative Codes with fingerprinting and determined to be of good moral character).
  • Computer Literate: Knowledge of Microsoft Suite required. Experience with an electronic medical record is desirable.
  • Driving Requirements: Personal automobile; must meet company required limits of personal auto insurance; driver license and approved driver status.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sexual abuse, physical abuse and neglect examinations on children referred to the Child Protection Team.
  • Provide appropriate medical treatment for urgent or emergent problems. Such treatment should be reported to the primary medical provider. Routine or less urgent medical concerns are to be referred to the primary medical provider for treatment and /or follow up.
  • Diagnose STD, vaginitis, cervictitis, urethristis, pharyngitis or other medical problems that may be persistent.
  • Arrange for appropriate intervention for other medical problems identified in the course of CPT medical evaluations.
  • Participate in established Quality Assurance programs as designated by the CPT.
  • Be available for medical consultation as needed.
  • Perform initial examination and collect evidence and lab specimens as indicated by the age, sex, and alleged history of abuse or neglect.
  • Refer for appropriate laboratory and /or radiological testing as needed.
  • Review appropriate laboratory tests, radiographic studies, ect. In context of abuse/neglect allegations.
  • Provide Chart review and Case review as needed.
  • Evaluate the developmental trajectory of child victims and refer for developmental services as needed.
  • Attend and participate in QA reviews with the Medical Director and/or her designee and quarterly case reviews with CPT staff and other professionals involved with the case. Provide up to date and comprehensive information on the child’s medical condition and make recommendations as needed.
  • Advocate for children and their families; working in the best interest of the child, in staffings, court, and other situations, as the need arises. Advocate at the system level for children and families to ensure the best possible treatments and support is made available.
  • Complete all forms, progress notes and other paperwork in the CPTIS system as well as in the child’s record in a timely fashion. Complete all documentation concisely and accurately and ensure that it corresponds with the CPT. Seek out needed information that is not readily available.
  • Complete and sign off on medical reviews of all child abuse reports submitted to the Florida State Abuse Hotline.
  • Assess risk of all children based on prior reports, medical history, and family history. Discuss all safety concerns with Case Coordinators.
  • Participate in on call/after-hours rotation. Complete on call/after-hours medicals exams for acute abuse cases.
