About The Position

The Operations Process Safety Management (PSM) Engineer will facilitate the implementation of Process Safety Management programs to ensure compliance with all State, Federal, and Corporate regulations, procedures, and policies. The PSM Engineer will provide expert technical and regulatory support to the assigned site on Process Hazard Analysis, LOPA, Quantitative Risk Assessments, MOC, engineering evaluations/gap assessments, and development of related risk reduction recommendations, as well as all other PSM / RMP compliance activities. By fostering site-wide consistency and building strong PSM awareness, the Operations PSM Engineer is essential to maintaining and strengthening the organization's operational safety culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering required; Master's Degree or Licensed Professional Engineer preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of work-related experience in a petrochemical facility or refinery, including implementation of OSHA's Process Safety Management.
  • Strong background in the implementation and execution of all elements of Process Safety and Risk Management.
  • Working knowledge of the tracking and application of regulatory requirements for Process Safety Management.
  • Familiar with PHA-related computer software; working knowledge of PHA-Pro is a plus.
  • Computer skills, including MS Office, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
  • Knowledge of refinery/chemical/petrochemical manufacturing processes.

  • Process Hazard Analysis Leader training (focus on HAZOP).
  • Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) training.
  • Safety Instrument System (SIS) training.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate implementation of Process Safety and Risk Management programs that provide methods for managing/reducing process safety-related risks.
  • Achieve compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company safety, health, and security programs/practices.
  • Coach and lead individual team members and groups for the continued development of Process Safety Competency throughout the organization.
  • Determine maintenance, operations, and other support needs through interaction and provide regulatory interpretation/support.
  • Facilitate regulatory compliance through implementation of training, policies/procedures, and Hazard and/or Risk Analysis.
  • Utilize internal and external resources to foster teamwork and develop workable solutions.
  • Execute assigned responsibilities in a manner protective of the environment to prevent/minimize environmental releases/emissions.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures, including Human Resources, ISO, Quality, Environmental, Health, Safety, and regulatory requirements.
