About The Position

A Polysomnographic Technologist works under the general supervision of the Medical Director (MD, PhD, DO) or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve Polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. A Polysomnographic Technologist can perform the duties of a Polysomnographic Technician and may provide supervision of other staff.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years job related experience Preferred.
  • At least 2 years experience as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist Preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent Required.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements Required.
  • Current registry by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) Required.
  • Effective 11/12/2020, new employees must obtain PACES certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Existing employees must obtain PACES certification by 7/1/2021 Required.

Responsibilities

  • Follow Department Operating Procedures and Procedural Protocols to ensure the collection of appropriate data.
  • Perform data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are kept artifact-free.
  • Perform sleep stage, arousal and all clinical events scoring during data acquisition.
  • Liberally document observations and relative clinical events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of results.
  • Implement and perform appropriate interventions such as in those necessary for patient safety or PAP titrations.
  • Remove electrodes and sensors and appropriately clean according to Department Operating Procedures for patient hookup and cleaning.
  • Oversee and perform difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions.
  • Perform the complete and final score of sleep studies that are performed by Trainees and Technicians, when necessary.
  • Perform accurate and representative report generation for professional review.
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex situations and apply procedures and policies.
  • Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning.
  • Apply electrodes and sensors according to Department Operating Procedures for patient hookup.
  • Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signal deflection and recognition.
  • During titration studies, perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting and desensitization prior to starting.
  • Collect, analyze and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs.
  • Explain pre-testing, testing and post-testing procedures to the patient and present caregivers.
  • Order equipment when needed.
  • Maintain refrigeration logs nightly.
  • Complete clean sweeps and NPSGs when requested.
  • Work at Dallas and Legacy Sleep Centers as needed to assist with nightly operations of Sleep Center.
  • Participate in the care and complex maintenance of all sleep equipment.
  • Participate in the inventory and ordering of medical supplies.
  • Participate in the organization and cleanliness of the sleep disorder center.
  • Help establish, evaluate and maintain department operational procedures and protocols.
  • Perform the functions of a Lead Technologist as defined and needed by the department.
  • Complete 50 CEUs required by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists within a five year time frame.
  • Attend 80% of the required monthly staff meetings and participates in team building exercises.
  • Attend quarterly meetings with Medical Director, Practice Manager and Daytime Scoring Technologist.
  • Participate in the scheduled department and/or technical meetings and/or conferences.
  • Participate in one or more of the department Committees.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
