About The Position

The Research Psychologist will play a crucial role in conducting innovative research projects focusing on maternal-child health, contributing to the advancement of medical knowledge, and promoting evidence-based practices in the field of psychology. The successful candidate will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across obstetrics, neonatology and pediatrics, engage in data collection, ultimately resulting in the dissemination of research findings through publications and presentations. The candidate will be jointly employed by the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics. Candidates will also have the opportunity to participate in the clinical care setting through the Utah Developmental Assessment Clinics at the University of Utah if desired. Both full-time and part-time options are available with flexible hours to accommodate both the qualified candidate and research participants. Research assessments are the primary focus of this position, but there are also clinical opportunities available if desired by applicant.

Requirements

  • Ph.D or Psy.D. degree from an APA accredited graduate program in counseling, school or clinical psychology or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
  • Current licensure as a Psychologist in the State of Utah.
  • One year experience in psychotherapy, group or family therapy within a clinical setting.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hospital- based psychological practices (inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization and / or outpatient).
  • Experience with individual, family, and group psychotherapy; and a variety of assessment experiences including intellectual, neuropsychological, and affective/behavioral assessment.
  • Licensed for two years or more, and experience, training, or interest in providing clinical supervision to interns and residents.
  • Completion of an APA -approved doctoral internship.

Responsibilities

  • Complete childhood neurodevelopmental testing for research studies (primarily National Institutes of Health funding), utilizing appropriate methodologies, to investigate various psychological phenomena and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field.
  • Follow study protocols, including surveys, interviews, behavioral observations, and psychological tests.
  • Interpret data for entry in on-line research tools.
  • Work closely with other researchers, psychologists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals to foster collaboration and ensure rigorous completion of study procedures and for clinical care (if clinical care component is desired).
  • Ensure research activities adhere to ethical standards, including obtaining appropriate informed consent, protecting participant confidentiality, and following institutional and regulatory guidelines.
  • Assist in the management of research study visits related to child neurodevelopment.
  • Keep abreast of current developments and emerging trends and participate in professional development activities.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
