About The Position

Westfalia is hiring a Prototype Systems Specialist to join our Research and Development team. The Prototype Systems Specialist supports advanced product development by creating drawings for 3D designs, purchasing and tracking components, building prototypes, and assisting in design validation tests. The role also includes operating and maintaining test equipment, documenting results, and supporting FMEA and test plan activities.

Requirements

  • Experience with industrial control panel wiring and high voltage (480V3PH) motors.
  • The ability to visualize new designs, and document them for discussion with other team members (hand drawing or sketching with Microsoft products).
  • Experience with (or the ability to learn) SolidWorks for creating detailed fabrication drawings from existing 3D models.
  • Capable of reading electrical schematics, hydraulic schematics, and detailed mechanical drawings.
  • Possess a driven work ethic for independent work with minimal supervision.
  • Use version control, issue tracking, and configuration management.
  • Skilled with hand tools, power tools and multi-meters.
  • Must have basic knowledge of rigging heavy items with an overhead crane.
  • Must become a certified forklift operator.
  • Ability to learn the Westfalia standard design tools (currently E-Plan and SolidWorks)
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint and Teams in daily work.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • An excellent attendance record.
  • 10+ years working as a technician for a custom machine builder.
  • Experience working with electro-mechanical machines and systems.
  • Formal education is not required if the application possesses the required skills.
  • This position requires both physical labor and office work; whatever is necessary to achieve the end goal.
  • The candidate must be able to lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Dexterity for safe operation of hand and power tools.
  • Must possess visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
  • Ability to position oneself by stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling in and around machinery during system commissioning and troubleshooting activities.
  • Must be fit for air travel and legally able to rent and drive a rental vehicle.
  • The candidate must be capable of working for extended periods of time in the York production facility during product development.
  • When appropriate in the project lifecycle, the candidate must also be prepared for extended travel stays at job sites, when initial products are delivered to the first several customers.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize Electro-Mechanical systems to meet a specified business objective.
  • Assist in writing test plans and documenting FMEA.
  • Draw detailed part drawings that can be used for fabrication purposes.
  • Plan, purchase parts, track deliveries, assemble, and test Electro-Mechanical machines.
  • Identify solutions by persevering in trial and error, or by leveraging the experience and advice of others within the organization.
  • Operate and monitor machine tests in a safe and methodical manner.
  • Document test results with written reports and videography.
  • Take ownership of all test equipment, product development tools and areas in the York Facility.
  • Perform and document customer product tests.
  • Travel to job sites to learn about Westfalia equipment specific issues related to product development tasks. Up to 10% travel is possible. Site visits will be planned and will not be mandatory outside of the standard 5-day work week.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Other duties as assigned.
