About The Position

Sceye is seeking a skilled and versatile Prototype Machinist to support the development of cutting-edge aerospace systems. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced R&D environment and takes pride in owning the full manufacturing process—from programming and setup to machining, inspection, and final assembly. As a key member of our growing machine shop, you will work closely with engineers and cross-functional teams to turn concepts into high-quality, precision components. You’ll play a critical role in enabling rapid prototyping and continuous innovation, helping bring complex designs to life with efficiency and accuracy. This position is well-suited for someone who enjoys problem-solving, values craftsmanship, and is excited to contribute to building and scaling a high-performance aerospace manufacturing capability.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to independently program, setup, and machine with CNC mills
  • Strong mechanical intuition, critical thinking, and attention to detail
  • Ability to interpret GD&T and other technical descriptions and drawings
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in the use of a CAD tool to support manufacturing operations
  • High level of awareness for safety and maintaining an efficient shop environment
  • Ability to work OT or occasional weekends as needed
  • Ability to travel 2-3 weeks per year

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certification or degree in machining, mechanical engineering, or related field
  • Ability to program a 5-axis milling machine
  • Experience with Fusion 360 CAM software
  • Experience with Hermle&Haas mills and Heidenhain controls
  • Experience in machining and fabricating carbon fiber composites
  • Basic welding and fabrication experience

Responsibilities

  • Machine quick turn parts from models, drawings, or descriptions to support engineering R&D
  • Perform secondary operations, including deburring, finishing, cleaning, and painting
  • Source cutting tools, workholding, shop tools, and equipment required to deliver complete products to internal customers
  • Inspect and document in-process and finished parts using any metrology equipment required
  • Develop and establish standard operating procedures for critical machine shop operations with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Design parts, components, and fixtures to support the activities above
  • Support internal customers with DFMA and GD&T to translate ideas into working prototypes
