About The Position

WSP is currently seeking a Protection Engineer - Senior Professional for their Boise, ID office, with hybrid and remote candidates also considered from an agreeable location. This role is part of the Electrical Studies, SCADA, and Protection (ESSP) team and involves the design, engineering, and studies of protection systems for equipment on the bulk power system. This includes the protection of substations, transmission lines, generators, renewables, industrial, and distribution systems. The successful applicant will be part of a growing organization that aims to meet clients' objectives and solve their challenges.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience as an electrical engineer providing design deliverables for large capital projects.
• Engineer in Training Certification.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s Degree in Engineering.
• Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
• Experience as a consulting engineer.
• Experience leading protective relaying projects in power generation, transmission, or distribution at a utility or industrial scale.
• Experience mentoring others and a willingness to do so.
• 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
• Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

Responsibilities

• Protective Relaying: Symmetrical component analysis, protection philosophy development, relay settings, and integration with SCADA systems.
• Protection Analyses: Electrical model development, short circuit, time-current coordination, arc flash, NERC compliance, and event analysis.
• Leadership: Lead teams on client projects to meet the scope, schedule, and budget. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Data Acquisition: Support infrequent onsite site visits to collect data and able to discuss project specifics at appropriate technical level for clients.
• Industry Standards: Working knowledge or awareness of applicable industry practices for protection as outlined in IEEE, ANSI, or NERC PRC standards.
• Organized: Flexibility to support a variety of project schedules to meet client needs and able to prioritize responsibilities effectively.
• Applicable software: AcSELerator Quickset, GE Enervista, ASPEN Oneliner, CAPE, SKM-PTW, ETAP, RSCAD.
• Applicable hardware: SEL, GE, Siemens, ABB, Beckwith, RTDS.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
