About The Position

The position involves providing design application engineering and operational support for protection systems in the District's generation, transmission, and substation facilities. The role ensures the reliable operation of these systems and interties with other utilities and customer-owned energy sources. Responsibilities include reviewing protective relay operations, analyzing system outages, and supporting the District's protection efforts, including Smart Grid initiatives.

Requirements

  • Four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (ABET-accredited).
  • Four years of engineering experience.
  • Valid driver's license.

  • Electric Utility engineer experience in system protection.
  • Effective communication skills with co-workers, vendors, and customers.
  • Self-starting and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Ownership and accountability for timely, accurate results.
  • Successfully completed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or registration as a Professional Electrical Engineer in Nebraska.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design application engineering and operational support for system protection systems.
  • Review protective relay operations and analyze system outages and disturbances.
  • Resolve operational control problems caused by short circuits or other disturbances.
  • Provide protection engineering for distributed resource interconnection.
  • Support District generation capacity addition and upgrade projects.
  • Maintain 24-hour availability for technical assistance and emergency response.
  • Keep abreast of technological advances to ensure protection systems meet the District's needs.
